Over Ronald Gaastra.

After completing his Dutch training as a swimming specialist (CIOS), Ronald started as assistant coach in ‘s Hertogenbosch. That was in 1982, the same year Annemarie Verstappen became world champion in the 200 meters freestyle. In 1983, aged 24, he became head coach at MZ&PC in Maastricht. In 1989 he was appointed technical director at the Flemish Swimming Federation (Vlaamse Zwemfederatie), where he worked with top-level swimmers such as Brigitte Becue, Sidney Appelboom and Frederik Deburghgraeve. In 2005 he joined the Antwerp-based professional swimming club Brabo, where he would lead many swimmers to Olympic success.
His greatest achievements are the Olympic medals of Frederik Deburghgraeve and Pieter Timmers. Deburghgraeve became Olympic champion in the 100 meters breaststroke in Atlanta in 1996, while Timmers took silver in swimming’s blue riband event, the 100 meters freestyle, in Rio in 2016.
Golf is Ronald’s other great passion. Playing golf helps him to further improve his mental coaching skills, while using them at the same time.
Being a top-level coach, Ronald is currently a sought-after speaker, both in the world of sports and the business community. He calmly conveys his message, but in his typical direct and determined manner.
Ronald Gaastra lives in Antwerp, with his wife Tine and their daughters Rienke (2010) and Cille (2013). Ronald also has two adult children from his first marriage, Lars (1992) and Mette (1993).
